2. FUTURE HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT
Discussions during the 48-hour visit confirmed that there was not likely to be any material change in the Development Plan, details of which were related in reports dated March 1976 and March 1977, but indications were received which suggested there could be a re-assessment of the priorities. The following are the major changes:

DENTAL TEACHING HOSPITAL:
The United Kingdom firm of YRM International (Yorke Rosenberg Mardell) has been offered the appointment of consultants, to work with the Government Architects Department of the Public Works Department on the design and planning of the new teaching school. Almost simultaneously, it was confirmed that Professor G L Howe of the Royal Hospital London School of Dental Surgery had accepted the appointment of Dean of the Dental School, and was likely to take up appointment in October 1978. The structural, mechanical etc engineers are to be Ove Arup and Partners.

2.2.3. Consideration will be given to the selection of equipment almost immediately. A schedule has been prepared covering all dental requirements (but excluding X-Ray, pathology, anaesthetics etc) and this will be offered to international tender together with the plans, in the near future. It is hoped by the University authorities that it will be possible for this tender to be awarded to one firm/organisation only, in the form of a dental 'package'.
2.2.4. The exact number of chairs/units required is not yet finally known, but it will be in the region of two hundred and fifty. the region of HK$24.5m.
