Until recently the Zambian judiciary (partly expatriate) has been relatively free from control by the Executive. are signs of increasing pressures and the freedom of the judges is likely to decrease as more Zambians are appointed to the Bench.
Freedom of association is enshrined in the Constitution and respected. Trade Union activities are to some extent curtailed by the Government, particularly if they clash with the interests of the Party.
(vii) Known dissidents may not always be granted
a Zambian passport but otherwise there do not appear to be restrictions on leaving the country. The only other limitation is that school leavers may first be required to complete their compulsory period of National Service.
