TUNISIA (continued)
(vi)
Office bearers of the Tunisian equivalent of the TUC, to whom all other unions are subject, are members of the only authorised political party and the Secretary General is a member of its Political Bureau. His job of representing the interests of both state and work force is a difficult balancing act. The Government appears aware that, as outside influences and economic pressures strengthen the hand of the work force, the machinery of control will need retuning. The right to strike already exists and is practised.
(vii) There is complete freedom to emigrate
and return. Emigrants who have left after falling from favour with the Government do not normally return until they have made their peace.
