1. With reference to our telephone conversations and further to my minute of 11 March 1977 addressed to Mrs Behan and copied to you, I have now checked Professor Turner's claim attached to his letter of 2 March and agree that the following items listed by Professor Turner as extra costs for his survey may be paid:-

2. The total comes to something over £1,000 and John Stewart of this department will telephone Professor Turner from Hong Kong to inform him that this will be the total payments he may expect in respect of the first stage of the study. Some of the items detailed by Professor Turner could, of course, be charged against the second stage of the study but this will not affect the ODM account. John Stewart will also tell Professor Turner that - as we agreed Dr Fosh will be receiving a total of £762.92, namely the amount listed in Mrs Behan's statement of payments to be made to Dr Fosh.

3.

These payments will include the amount of HK$2559.55 which I authorised in my minute of 20 January 1977 but since you have not yet paid the HK$2559.55 there is no danger of double payment.

4. I understand that you are still checking the accounts. As soon as you are convinced that no duplication payment will be made, I shall be grateful if you will let me know. I shall then write to Professor Turner telling him precisely what will be paid but, in order that this may be done, I shall need a statement from Mrs Behan of the amounts that are to be paid so that we are all in agreement.
