U.S. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE INTERNATIONAL LABOR ORGANIZATION
A STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT CARTER
November 1st, 1977
Two years ago the United States gave official notice that it would leave the I.L.O. unless corrective measures were taken to restore that organization's commitment to its original purposes. Because such measures have not been taken, I direct that United States membership in the International Labor Organization be terminated. The U.S. remains ready to return whenever the I.L.O. is again true to its proper principles and procedures.
