appreciating the difficulties which may be hcountered in attempting to improve declarations, it is articularly disappointing that of the three conventions o which the Minister of State drew the Governor's ttention (telegram 436 of 2 June 1976) only one, namely onvention No 2, was applied, subject to modifications,

The Hong Kong Government has stated that it hopes to e able to effect improvements during 1977 in respect of further conventions in addition to convention No 92 and

No 94 namely:-

Convention No 42: Workmen's compensation

(Occupational Diseases) (Revised) (1934)

Convention No 90: Night-work of young persons

(Industry) (1948)

Convention No 101: Holidays with pay (Agriculture)

In respect of the 1977 programme the Overseas Labour Adviser has pointed out that there are a number of questions which will need to be satisfactorily answered by the Hong Kong Government before we can be confident that the 1977 programme will be completed in full and on time. Details of these are at Annex B. The Overseas Labour Adviser will be pursuing these questions with the Hong Kong Government and proposes in future to check at quarterly intervals with the Hong Kong Government the progress that has been made in keeping to the timetable.

7. The Hong Kong Government proposes during 1977 to examine in greater detail 9 further conventions on which it hopes to be able to effect improvements in subsequent

years. These are:-

Convention No 10: Minimum age (Agriculture) (1921) Convention No 32: Protection against accidents

(Dockers) (Revised) (1932)

Convention No 58: Minimum age (Sea) (Revised) (1936) Convention No 59: Minimum age (Industry) (Revised)

(1937) Convention No 68: Food and catering (Ships' crews)
