HONG KONG: REVIEW OF THE APPLICATION OF ILO CONVENTIONS.

1. Mr Callaghan, when Secretary of State, directed that the Hong Kong Government's performance in applying ILO Conventions should be reviewed annually and asked that Lord Goronwy-Roberts should undertake this task. The first such review took place last year but took some time to complete. The outcome was Lord Goronwy-Roberts' personal message to the Governor, in FCO

2. In response to Lord Goronwy-Roberts' request for a progress report by 1 October last year, the Hong Kong Acting Secretary for Social Services reported (on 13 September) that the Hong Kong Government expected to be in a position to make improved declarations in 1976 on the Conventions at (i), (ii) and (vii) in Lord Goronwy- Roberts' list as well as on Conventions Nos 14 on Weekly Rest (Industry) and No 22 on Seamen's Articles of Agreement. He also advised that the Hong Kong Government expected to make improved declarations in 1977 on the Conventions at (ii), (iv) and (vi)
