The Bowsprit Company drama presentation "Empire Made"

was staged at the Stage Centre, Burrage Road, Plumstead,

London SE18 on Wednesday July 6 before an audience of

about 40 educationists and teachers/actors involved in

the use of drama in education.

The presentation, produced by Miss June Mitchell, was preceded by a showing of the Granada TV "World in Action"

programme on child labour in the Hong Kong toy industry.

Among those present were Mr. Brian Wright, freelance

journalist and playwright; Mr. Walter Easey of the Hong Kong

Research Project; Mr. Robin Porter; Mr. Bert Parnaby, a

schools inspector; and Mr. G. Hodson, ILEA drama inspector.

Introducing the play, Miss Mitchell said that children seeing "Empire Made" would compare conditions of children

living in Hong Kong with their own lives, comparing their

own Saturday jobs with the 14-hour days being worked by

children in Hong Kong to prevent their parents starving to

death.
