Hong Kong Power Station Project
In your letter of 5 July to Patrick Wright, you recorded that Sir Lawrence Kadoorie wishes to present the Frime Minister with a Chinese jade box in appreciation of the meeting which Sir Lawrence had with the Prime Minister recently.
The Prime Minister accepts your Minister's advice that in the circumstances it would be right for him to accept this gift and you may so inform the British Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong. In doing so, you should make it clear that the gift is being accepted for display in the Prime Ministerial collection in No. 10 Downing Street. The Prime Minister will wish to express his thanks to Sir Lawrence Kadoorie when the gift has arrived.
The Prime Minister, in commenting on your letter, as on your earlier letter of 28 June (to which I have replied separately) said that he would like to be kept informed of the progress of the negotiations for the Hong Kong power station project.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Ewen Fergusson
(Foreign and Commonwealth Office) and to Martin Vile (Cabinet Office)'.
John Mills, Esq., Department of Industry.
