1. We spoke at Mr Stewart's meeting this morning about the outstanding action on BTC telegram No. 61 of 29 March (folio 119).
2.
The Department of Industry, in the person of the PS to the Minister of State concerned have, as I arranged with Mr Macdonald last week, written to No.10 about Sir Lawrence's proposed gift (see Mr Mills' letter of 5 July to Mr Wright attached). I have spoken this morning to Mr Field in the DOI (215: 760) in Mr Moulson's absence this week, and asked him to let us know as soon as No.10 say whether or not the Prime Minister will accept Sir Lawrence Kadoorie's gift. Once we know the answer, we should send a follow- up telegram to FCO telegram No.48 of 30 June to the BTC telling Mr March to put the gift in the bag or not as the case may be (folio No.124). The telegram should not be sent "Personal from
Mr Stewart".
