2. I spoke to Lord Rhodes last evening and told him that Lord Goronwy-Roberts would be very pleased to receive Sir Lawrence Kadoorie on behalf of the Secretary of State. Lord Rhodes seemedgenuinely grateful for the offer but said that it would not now be possible to fit in a call on an FCO Minister. Sir Lawrence would be seeing the Prime Minister at 6.00 p.m. this evening, 31 March.
3. Lord Rhodes added that Sir Lawrence Kadoorie had been absolutely delighted with his meeting with Sir Peter Carey, as a result of which he was optimistic about the prospects of British suppliers securing the contract. Sir Lawrence was also very pleased that the Prime Minister was making time available to receive him and had slightly postponed his return to Hong Kong for the appointment.
