On further inspection I noticed metal cages placed on
the floor, containing about eight civet cats in all, kept
either singly or in pairs in the cages.
9.
I then noticed a leopard cat kept in a metal cage,
which appeared to be unusually quiet and immobile. On
closer examination I saw that it had a badly bruised and
bleeding paw, and this leopard cat maintained a vacant and
unblinking stare throughout my stay in this shop, due
probably to severe shock and pain.
10.
There were two foxes kept singly in very small
cages, so small that the foxes were completely curled up,
and I could not make out where the tails or heads of the
foxes were.
*
They were completely immobile.

I also saw three large spacious cages containing about thirty young owls in all, the owls being no more than
6-8 in height. One of the owls had a broken and bleeding
beak and was not very active. I also saw four metal cages
each containing about 3-4 kites or hawks.

In one corner of the shop were the dead and rigid
bodies of one fox and two' civet cats. During the course of
my visit in this shop a consignment of birds and beasts was...
delivered and unloaded, and the body of a dead civet cat was
found in one of the incoming wooden boxes and flung to add
to the existing pile of dead bodies.
13.
I left the premises at about 1.35 p.m. and duly
reported my findings to both Dr. Frank Reitinger and Dr.
Robert Callow.
