1. Thank you for your letter of 19 July (from Hong Kong). 8 September is fine and I have arranged the following appointments for you:
(a) 9.30 am
(b) 11.00 am
(c) 3.00 pm
Mr G I Fuller, the Assistant Secretary in charge of nature, sport and wildlife conservation in the Department of the Environment (CSR4) at 17-19 Rochester Row, SW1 (Tel No 834-8181);
Mr D F Milton, who will then be Acting Head of Hong Kong & General Department, (with myself and, I think, Mr O'Hara or Mr Chase from Science and Technology Department) in Room K 247, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, King Charles Street, SW1 (Tal No 233-4777); and
Mrs D Biggam, HM Customs and Excise, Room 17/5, Kent House, Upper Ground, SEl (Tel No 928-0533, Ext 301). Mrs Biggam drew up the recent British legislation on conservation matters and looks after its enforcement.
If you could join me for a drink and lunch between (b) and (c) I would be delighted.
2. I will not comment now on page 2 of your letter except to say that the DOE were very interested in one or two of the ideas you explained in it on worked ivory and hope to discuss them with you in September. I look forward to seeing you on the 8th.
sc: Mr Chose (STD)
Mr Milton (HKGD)
