3.
(a) the projection of Hong Kong's image in the UK. During the list two years this has mainly involved defending Hong Kong's performance in a number of politically sensitive areus, e.g. child labour, drugs and TRIALS, by means of letters to the press, seeking to stimulate "pro-Hong Kon * PCs, aid providing material for public discussions of Hong kongꞌ3 ufiairs;
(b) the development of contacts with government departments responsible for matters arfecting liong Kong's interests; e.g. the D01/DCT on tзx ciles;
(c)
"consular" work (though the Hong Kong Comuni ssioner enjoys noitier diplomit.c nor consuler status) amongst the Hong Kong Chinese community and students in the U; and
(a) the recruitment of UK expatriates for service in Hong Kong, 9.g. ɛduinis rative officers and police officers.
lar Kidd is handing over to Lr 3r ay or. 26 Septemler and is then retiring in the UK. He joined the Hong Foig Government in 1950 and, after serving as Establisment Lecret and Deputy
er virg Chief (than Colonial') Secretary, was appointed Hong Kong Commissioner in Londor. early in 1974. Relations beteen the and the Hong kong Government Office during Lr Kidu's term as.. Commissioner have been relaxed. Mr Kid has not involved himself in the broud straan of relations between the Hong Kong and UK Governments, though is het been a time of fairly rapid development. Nor has the Hong Kong Government sought to usa hin as an intermediary in th..s respect. 1r Kidd has made a reasonable job selling Hon; long in the UK to far as public opinion at large is concerned. His office made a particularly successful contribution to the Silver Jubilea celebrations.
