early in 1977 as possible what the framework for trade in textiles will be in Hong Kong's two biggest markets after the expiry of the current bilateral agreements; and
in seeking (d) above, to ensure that there is no misunderstanding of Hong Kong's intentions by other developing countries which would weaken Hong Kong's position in the developing group.
In respect of 21(c), Honourable Members will be interested to know that the leading textile associations sent to London a delegation consisting of their chairman, and led by the Honourable Francis Y. H. Tien, on 18th June. This group will see Lord Goronwy Roberts, Mr Meacher and Sir Peter Carey and will express to them and officials, and to unofficial bodies their concern over the current situation; and will seek a better understanding and acceptance of the essential interests of Hong Kong in these developments.
