for a number of quite complex projects. They have the advantage that it is the consultants rather than the
government who have to recruit and look after the career prospects of those who are used for these tasks. We anticipate that we will continue to need services of this
kind.
42. We are at the present time studying the terms of
service under which people are recruited to serve under ODM auspices but it is too soon to say what if any changes
will result from this.
43. We ar also considering the development of intermediate
technology and recognise that technical co-operation officers can have quite a direct part to play in the extension of technology of this kind. The ODM and its Scientific Units are active in the field of intermediate technology, but a review of these activities is now being carried out, to consider whether they could be usefully extended, with particular reference to the poorest countries, and for the benefit of both the urban and the rural poor.
