HE The Governor of Hong Kong's letter dated 30 April 1977 to CBFHK. all 1346.
1. CBFHK has written to CDS (reference A) reporting on an exchange of corres- pondence with the Governor, references B and C, about the first year of operation of the Defence Costs Agreement.
2. DS6 have been charged by the Chiefs of Staff "in conjunction with ACDS(Fol), the Army Department and DS11 for preparation of a draft reply and to the Navy and Air Force Department for information". This draft (which has been agreed by AUS(GS)) is now circulated for comment. In particular ray I request DS8 to comment not necessarily for inclusion in the draft letter - on the question of dispersing with 444 SU mentioned in paragraph 10 of reference B.
3. In view of the Jubilee Holiday, and to ellow for any points which may arise from CBFHK's informal visit to MOD next Wednesday 8 June, it is requested that any amendments are passed to DS6 by close of play on Friday 10 June.
