BRIEF THE THREAT TO HONG KONG

References: A. JIC(A)(73)9 dated 7 Sep 73.

B. DI2A/HK 16 dated 26 May 76 (To JSIS only)

1. Chinese economic expansion in Hong Kong continues and the status quo itself slowly changes. At the same time, even though they have had little direct effect on Hong Kong, there were im- portant changes in China during 1976. It therefore seemed sensible to take a new look at the "Threat to Hong Kong" (References A and B) and produce an up to date version for use at desk level as an aid in preparing briefs.

2. A copy of the latest version is attached. If you have any comments or suggested amendments please let me have them.
