LINES AGREED WITH MESSRS CHEUNG AND YEUNG OF THE HEUNG YEE KUK DELEGATION FOR PRESS RELEASE

The Heung Yee Kuk delegation were today received in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by Lord Goronwy-Roberts and presented a petition to him. The interview lasted for 50 minutes.

During the interview the leader of the delegation explained that the Heung Yee Kuk were concerned with three main problems:

(1)

the need for more provision of social and recreational services in the New Territories by the Hong Kong Government;

(ii) a modification of the Land Resumption Ordinance and the process for compensation for land resumed;

(iii) the lack of any separate representation in the Legislative Council from the New Territories.

The delegation were greatly impressed by the friendly and welcoming attitude shown by Lord Goronwy-Roberts and the whole meeting took place in a warm and co-operative atmosphere.
