The Country Parks Ordinance was enacted in 1976 to protect the remaining undeveloped areas of the New Territories for recreational use by introducing management and preventing development incompatible with recreational use. The legislation provides a degree of protection for village interests, and the Heung Yee Kuk has so far not objected to it. As other areas are designated as Country Parks, some clashes of interest may well occur, but this is not a present bone of contention.
