VISIT TO LONDON BY HE THE GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG

Sir Murray Maclehose will be visiting London from 21 to 30 November.

FCO Hong Kong Dept (HT. David 233-4777) is arranging the Governor's programme. HE has expressed a wish to call on CDS, and is available to make other calls. PS/Minister of State has confirmed that Dr Gilbert would like to see HE, and it is suggested that a call on FUS could be of mutual intercst and benefit.

3. On the assumption that MOD land holdings in Hong Kong ar no longer a major "issue" with the Hong Kong Government at the time of HE's visit (should this problem not be resolved we might expect a concurrent programme of negotiations), AUS(GS) will be pleased to call on HE at the latter's convenience should he wish to discuss matters arising out of the operation of the Defence Costs Agreement.

4. I would be grateful if the Private Offices concern would contact Mr David to negotiate for such calls to be incorporated into HE a programme.
