Sian Imold,
I spoke about the RSA invitation to the Governor to deliver a lecture on modern urban development in Hong Kong. I am glad to say he has agreed to do this and it will take place on Monday 28 November at 5 30 p.m. The Society is inviting Sir Frederick Catherwood to take the chair, although as they have only just written to him nobody knows whether he will be able to do so.
The lecture will cover urban development planning and thinking and we are suggesting to the RSA that they invite representative firms from the building industry, consulting engineers, architects, and others who have been involved in major development projects such as MTR, China Light, etc. I am also proposing a few names from the GLC, London Transport, British Road Federation, Road Research Laboratory and the Hydraulic Research Laboratory. You mentioned the Environment Department. It may be that some building contractors will be stirred to doing more in Hong Kong and this would be most welcome.
I think some people in the office might find the talk interesting and if you let me know who would like to go I shall pass their names on to the RSA. It may also be that you can spot some obvious gaps in the list of people we have been thinking about, so if additional groups occur to you, please give me a ring.
