CORRIGENDUM

1.

The following replaces para raphs 7 and 8 in the address by

HE the Governor at the opening session of the Legislative

Council on October 5, 1977.

7.

There are the plus points in our rospect firstly

we can count on 1,000 million gallons a month from the desalter

regardless of rain; secondly the Chin e authorities agreud to

increase their delivery as from October 1st from 24,000 million

gallons to 30,000 million gallons a year. This extra 6,000

Lillion gallons at this juncture is invaluable; and without

it the danger of further restrictions would have been considerable.

It represents a significant technical feat and a most helpful

action for which we are indeed grateful.

2.

Althoug 10 hours a day is extremely inconvenient, it

is supportable, but tighter restrictions could be tuch harder

to beer, particularly in high rise buildings hero pressure

takes longer to build up. We therefore wis to run to risk of

having to impose them. At present we do not low what rain

will fall during the rest of the autumn and winter, nor do we

know whether next summer's rain will be carly or late, normal

This is, therefore, no time to take risks in sc

important a matter, and unless there is unusual rainfall in the

autumn and winter, your Government does not intend to relax

present restrictions. Eut, on the brighter side, the additional

supplies from China will allow us to relax them sooner than would

otherwise have been the case once our reservoirs have begun to

fill up again next year.
