HOUCING DEPARTMENT PLANS IMPROVEMENTS IN WEW AREAS

Hong Song Housing Department plans new style temporary housing areas with major improvements over old style arees by providing part-built resilential structures and metered electricity and water supply to individual households. Other provisions include child care day centres, nurseries and clinics. The Department plaus to build 16 temporary housing areas in the next six months to house 33,000 people. Some 33 temporary housing areas with a total population of 51,000 are now in existence.

NIAK Hong Kong Trade Development Jouncil Chairman fr. T.K.Ana, in Manila to explore trade expansion possibilities between the Philippines and Hong Kong, referred to the recent encouraging trends between the two countries. a meeting with the Philippines Secretary of Trade in Menila, Mr. Ann said: "Two-way trade between Hong Kong end the Philippines rose from HKZ237 million (£29,625,000) in 1972 to 9643,500,000 ($81 million) in 1976. For the first seven months of this year, it amounted to HK433 million, (254 million), representing an increase of 26 per cent According to Mr. Ann, the balance of trade was in Hong Kong's favour.

OVERSEAS TRADE FROMOTION IN AMERTOA AND MIDDLE EAST

TWO Hong Kong business groups sponsored by Hong Kong Trade Development Council are on promotion visits to Los Angeles and Cairo, while two other delegations completed their sales drives in Cologne and Varsav. TDC has set up altogether 280 business appointments in Los Angeles for 16 local firms represented on the trade mission. The other group of 15 local companies are visiting Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat before arriving in Cairo.

RENDY-TO-WEAR PROMOTION IMDER WAY

Promotion of the 1978 Hong Kong Ready-to-Wear Festival is actively under way. Hong Kong Trade Development Council Executive Director Mr. Len Junning reported from New York that more than 700 major American buyers will be timing their Janurry 1978 buying to coincide with the festival.

A DEPOSIT BANK FOR OVERSELS STAMP COLLECTORS

Overuena stamp collectors can benefit from Hong Kong General Post Office's philatelic bureau, which provides stamps for current definitive issues, commemoration stamos of the previous 12 months and a first day cover service. Customers can open a deposit account by writing to the bureau. In the last financial year, the bureau sold postage stamps and folders worth HK3270,000 (333,750), representing a 42 per cent increase over first year operations in 1975-76.
