PLANNING PAPER: MONITORING COMMITTEE

1. During my study of the brief it appeared to me that there were several loose ends which had not yet been taken up. They are as follows.

(a) It is not clear what, if any, action we have taken on the Governor's letter of 2 May 1977 to Lord Goronwy-Roberts about the illegal employment of children. It seems to

me that some action is needed, although I realize that the Minister himself will have seen the letter.

(b) We were asked for advice on the Governor's letter

of 4 May on the review of the application of ILO Conventions. Despite the fact that the letter was received in this Department on 10 May, no action seems to have been taken

Um. Dulty Bout and the OLA tells me that he has not seen a copy.

(c) No action seems to have been taken on the Governor's letter of 11 May giving details of the proposed review of social welfare. I accept the letter was only received just before the Monitoring Committee meeting and that it had been with me most of the time between. However, I consider we should submit this after consultation with the OLA and certainly the Governor deserves an acknowledgement.
