On 20/1/77 at about 9.20 a.m. Inspector Blaize and myself, went to Cell.

Inspector Blaize was dressed in uniform. I was not. I called accused 5

and he came to the door of the cell. I identified myself to him as a police

officer. I asked accused how he was feeling and he said O.K. He then asked

me for some water. I gave him 3 glasses. He drank them. He then asked me

for some clothes. At that time he was dressed in the yellow bath trunk. I

got him a yellow pullover and a cream coloured pants. He put them on.

then told him that I was making enquiries into the death of MIS Evelyn Rabsatt

at Major Bay on the 19/1/77. I cautioned him. He said he prefered to speak

in a cool place, not in the cell. I then unlocked the cell door and

Inspector Blaize and I escorted him to my office upstairs. I sat behind the

desk and the accused sat facing me. Inspector Blaize sat on accused's right 15

and P/C James sat on the Inspector's right. It was about 9.25 a.m. I be

to interview the accused. Interviewed him until 10.37 a.m. Then he said

"As man, I going tell you the truth. I went to Mrs. Evelyn's shop

yesterday morning. I met her doing peanuts. I tied her up and killed her for

scandalizing" my name. I immediately cautioned him. I told him it was my 20

intention to make a written record of what he had to say. I told him he

could write it himself or I could write for him. He told me to write it

for him. I write out the caution read it over to him and he signed it in

the presence of Inspector Blaize and P/C James. Inspector Blaize signed as

a witness to the caution. I then recorded his statement. This lasted from

10.37 to 1.37. I read it over to him and he made corrections to that

statement and he initialed these corrections. I told he could correct

alter or add anything he wished. He agreed the statement was true and

correct and he signed every leaf of the statement. Inspector Blaize signed

as witness.
