It is
the way to the airport, I cannot remember that.
also a lie when Pickering said, that he missed the
knife the night before, because I picked up the knife
the morning". In answer to the court, he said: "I wil1
not say that Miss Rabsatt injured me in any way. The
scratches were not done by her, but by the bushes. I
can't remember how my finger got cut".
Members of the Jury, you will see then, that apart
from certain conditions about his school life and what
happened in St. John, by and large his evidence in court
is very much like the evidence he gave to the police a
long time ago. So for the Defence, you heard Counsel's
address. He told you this sort of consistency is
indicative of the fact that the accused is not lying,
that basically he is a witness of truth. You will
decide.

Now lets sum it up a bit. The accused tells us that
he was a bit slow at school, and he told the specialist
psychiatrist, Dr. Mahey, the same thing. He told Dr.
Mahey about his experience in St. John. Dr. Mahey used
information that he gathered from the accused and the
accused's sister for him to assess the accused's
personality. He used that information as well as his own
observations on the spot. He watched him, he talked to
him, and he formed his opinion. He told you that he found
his vocabulary limited. He told you that he found the
accused to be rather casual about this very serious matter.
He found that he had a smile at times which struck him as
being odd.
These are some of the personal observations made
by the psychiatrist. He drew other conclusions from the
information he received and he tells you that the accused
gave him a history of having bouts of auditory and visual
hallucinations.
