These were the blood samples I took from the accused.
(Witness is shown EXH. V.M. 1) & (V.M. 18) V.M. 17 is a specimen of a
swab taken from the left foot. V.M. 18 is a slide made from the swab
of V.M. 17. I took these on 19/1/77 and handed them to the police.
On 20/1/77 I saw the accused about 5.30 p.m. His condition
physically was very good. His pulse rate had returned to normal. The
scratches were healing without infection. He complained of having
headaches off and on but not constantly. I told him to continue with
tranquilisers which I had prescribed on 19/1/77.
The questions I asked were very general questions like his name, his age, his location the country was in, where he was from originally. He
answered all. This was at about 6.00 p.m. on 19/1/77.
I have seen the accused âirly frequently since these two visits and
have examined him and sat and talked to him. He has always been quite
well, has never wanted anything and stated that he was quite happy.
I kept a record of my visits to the prison. I have this with me. 1
have never discovered anything peculiar about him. He appeared to me a
normal person. I made sure the accused was well looked after
in the way
of having a shower, getting exercise, eating enough. I asked him if he
wanted anything such as books to read. He was reading the Bible on each
visit.

I did not ask him why he was lying on the ground. He gave no reason,
He did not give any reason for the abrasions and cuts. I assessed him
for any mental abnormalities during my conversations and visits, which
were fairly frequent.
I saw accused on 23/8/77 and at that time he was not eating well
although sleeping well and he did complain of having stomach pains.
I next saw him on 1/9/77 and he had taken the iron pills which I
had prescribed along with some vitamin· tablets on 23/8/77 in order to
make up for the food he was not eating. On 1/9/77 he complained of
vomiting and he had vomited once, I felt that the iron tablets I had
prescribed could have been responsible for the vomiting and I suggested
