Dear Mr. Owen,

I am writing on behalf of this Union's Council to urgently request you to save the lives of two men (Erskine Burrows and Larry Tacklyn) who will be hung on Friday. We appeal to one who has consistently upheld morality as an element in foreign policy. Realising any reluctance on your part to intervene in Bermuda's internal affairs; the right of appeal to the British Government does exist for these men and we urge you to show compassion and grant their appeal. We urge you to save their lives without reference to the very dubious judicial processes initiated against these men (inquest before trial etc.) but as an appeal to what we hope is a compassionate and humanitarian government.

I was one of those speaking to Mr. Stan Newens and others on Tuesday night, and I would ask you to read his letter and if possible speak to those M.P.s who signed it.

Yours fraternally,

Peter Butterworth
