I rang a lady in your press office this morning to discover whether the hangings in Bermuda had taken place. She didn't even know. She suggested that I should attend the regular press conference at 12.30 in order to find out. Alternatively she said that I should ring some fellow who was "in a meeting".
I was enormously pleased when you became Foreign Secretary, because I felt that there was somebody, now, with intelligence, compassion, and courage in a major post of government.
Why didn't you stop those hangings?
