Executions in Bermuda

1. You will see from the telegrams attached that the
date for the executions in Bermuda has been set for
Friday, 2 December.
2. On seeing the timing of the proposed announcement, I asked the Department to contact Bermuda and ask for a
delay until you had been informed of what was proposed.
The Deputy Governor said that the two men had been
informed of the date of their execution as had others and
the news might leak. They could, however, delay the announcement until lunchtime on Friday at the latest.

I have asked the department to draft a short minute for you to send to the Prime Minister and other Ministers involved simply telling them of the date of the execution
and of the proposed announcement. I have also asked the department to let us see the proposed briefing material for News Department.
