Details of offences:

The two prisoners were jointly charged, convicted and sentenced to death on 18 November 1976 on two counts of murder and one of aggravated robbery. Their appeals were dismissed on 13 i.arch 1977. The then Acting Governor, after consultation with the Bermuda Prerogative of Mercy Committee, considered whether he should exercise clemency under the powers of pardon or reprieve delegated to him under the Bermuda Letters Fatent, and decided on 27 April 1977 that the law should take its course. The accused applied to the rivy Council for leave to appeal to the Council against sentence and conviction. Leave was refused

on 6 October, 1977. Thereafter the Governor again reviewed the case with the Frerogative of Mercy Committee, taking the petition into account, and on 27 October 1977 he confirmed the Acting Lovernor's decision.

The prisoners were convicted of murder in the course of an arked robbery. They shot to death the Manager and Assistant

anager of a shopping centre.

One of the prisoners, Erskine Lurrant Burrows, was previously convicted on 6 July 1976 of the murder of the former Governor of bermuda, bir nichard Charples, the Commissioner of Folice, Er George Luckett, and the Governor's Aide de Camp, Captain Layers.
