Mr Bruce Grocott (Lichfield and Tamworth): To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, how many executions have been carried out by the illegal authorities in Southern Rhodesia in each of the last five years; and how many of those executed were non-voting black citizens..
MR EVAN LUARD
We have no precise information. We understand however that between 1968 and April 1975 60 Africans were executed by the regime and that since April 1975, when the regime announced that details of executions would no longer be published, over 100 Africans have been executed. Almost all of those executed or under sentence of death are presumed to be Rhodesian Africans who have been denied the right to vote or to engage in normal political activity in their own country.
