1. Thank you very much for your letter of 9 June telling me of the latest developments.

2. I believe that John Stewart has recently written to you sending a copy of FCO Memorandum on the Prerogative just in case it was lost in your files before you arrived in Bermuda. John has told you that we will let you know as soon as we get a decision from Ministers about the "Creech Jones" formula.

3. The main purpose of this letter is to say how strongly we agree with your view on the disadvantages of a referendum. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to take the subject up with Jack Sharpe while he was here but we would certainly support you in any move you took to discourage a referendum.
