BRIEF FOR THE INSPECTION OF UKMIS NEW YORK BY WIAD
Main Requirements
Our main requirement is that the Mission should keep in close touch with the members of the Committee of 24 in order to influence their reports and recommendations on the dependent territories for which this Department is responsible. We also rely on the Mission to assist dependent territory representatives attending Committee sessions and to provide us with guidance on general UN thinking on the future of the smaller dependent territories and likely reactions to particular constitutional proposals. We receive very good service from the Mission in all these respects. It is particularly valuable for a member of the UKMIS to accompany Missions from the Committee of 24 on their visits to dependent territories and this is regularly done.
Future Developments
As there is no hope of early independence for WIAD's dependent territories our requirements are unlikely to diminish in the next two to three years. We may indeed face some particularly awkward problems over developments in the Caribbean.
Activities or Reports which could be dispensed with
None.
