Tony Duff's visit was a considerable help tàme It was characteristically thoughtful of you to have suggested this. It was a comfort to Frances and myself to have him with us for a brief stay, and I think that he and I were able to identify most of the errors omissions mainly in our analysis of what had gone wrong. I am very grateful to Tony for undertaking this I expect sudden mission, at the cost of a double dose of jet lag. he will have given you a report of our findings, so I will say no more on that subject.

While I shall have to retain greater security protection for sometime, my own position seems to have been restored, politically, to the point where I have been able to bring the two political parties together under my chairmanship to consider the situation and how best to institute an Enquiry into what happened; identifying the causes, but also looking to the future and to see how we can set things right. We have had one meeting, where the Opposition Leader and her colleagues revealed the depth of their suspicions and antagonism, which some on the Premier's side of the table heartily reciprocated! But they have agreed to meet with me again, and I

The Opposition are really think we have got something going here. demanding a fully fledged Royal Commission, in the hope that this will take up their grievances (not all well founded) of "constitu- tional discrimination"- the basis of representation through constituency boundaries etc. and put pressure, through the Secretary of State and the British Parliament, on the Bermuda Government to induce them to introduce constitutional changes. are now going into the pros and cons of Royal or other commissions but I don't really think there is any devisive issue here.
