TERRITORIAL STUDIES

I have delayed replying to Mr Burton's minute (ORG 284/01) of 28 April as I wished to discuss your request for copies of the completed Territorial Studies with the Geographical Departments concerned.

This is to let you know that we will arrange to provide your Department with copies of the Territorial Studies as each is completed.

The only Territorial Study completed so far, and of which I enclose a copy, is that of:-

For your information, although considerable work has been undertaken on the other Studies since my minute of 21 March, there is still much work to be done and the present position is:-

New Hebrides - (Not yet agreed with CDM)

WIAD are working on Studies of the following:

British Virgin Islands

Turks and Caicos Islands

St Helena

Consideration is being given to the possibility of studies on Ascension and Pitcairn.

We have noted the reference to your commitment to the Treasury but I should say that we are not considering a wider distribution of the Studies other than within FCO and ODM at least until we have had an opportunity to analyse all of the completed Studies.
