REVISION OF NOTES ON CONSTITUTIONAL POSITION OF DEPENDENT TERRITORIES

1.

United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations has requested a further revision of the classified notes on the Constitutional position of the Dependent Territories as the Mission finds that the notes are of considerable value both within UKMIS and they are also drawn upon for discussion with members of the Committee of 24's Sub-Committee on Dependent Territories. This latest request is prompted due to forthcoming staff changes in UKMIS - it is anticipated that revised notes will be of great value to the new incumbents.

I attach, at flag A, copies of the most recent edition of the classified notes (December 1976).

3. I would be grateful if you could arrange to have the information revised up to the end of July 1977 and return the revisions to me by Wednesday 27 July in order that we may send them to UKMIS by Friday 29 July.

For Mr G A Beattie, DTEU Subject to your views I consider that the note on Name of DT, Area, Population and Income, which you revised in May 1977 (copy attached) at flag C, would be a useful preface. If you agree that it should be included would you arrange for any revision necessary, please? remove references to WIAS.)
