BELIZE
We believe that the best means of bringing Belize to independence is by means of negotiations with Guatemala. My Honourable Friend (Mr Rowlands) is at present in Guatemala City for discussions with the Government of Guatemala. Earlier this month we were obliged to reinforce our small defensive garrison in Belize, but following the latest round of negotiations on 6/7 July and the announcement of the visit of my honourable Friend the tension in the area decreased.
