Kaifong Leaders Decided on Three Phases to

Retain the Governor

Kaifong leaders in Hong Kong and Kowloon had a meeting yesterday to discuss the steps which they should take to seek approval for the extension of the Governor's term of office. They agreed on three courses of action, i.e. :

(a) they will petition to H.M. the Queen;

(b) when the Secretary of State arrived in Hong Kong

they would send a delegation to seek an interview with him and present their request; and

(c) if necessary, they would send a small group of

Kai Fong representatives to London and approach the U.K. Government direct.

In the meeting the Honourable Adviser to the meeting Mr. WONG Tin- wing had drafted a petition for the meeting's consideration. During their meeting on 27th February 1976, it was also agreed to form a special committee to press for the extension of the Governor's service with Messrs. WOO Shing-suen, SO Ching, SHUM Lo-yeung, TSO Siu-chung and WONG Tin-wing as its members. The Honourable Adviser's draft petition summarised Sir Murry MacLehose's achievements since he has been the Governor of Hong Kong in 1971.
