b) Conduct of Standing Conference Committees

This had been discussed at a joint meeting of Standing Conference officers and Committee Chairmen that morning,

Members were asked whether they had suggestions for improvement of the procedure.

Miss Pearce suggested the need for more and better machinery for quicker action. Others felt that the structure of the Standing Conference which was intended for the exchange of information and views rather than operational projects prevented joint action and, in any case, many of the organisations had their own programmes.

The Officers/Chairmen Committee had discussed the possibility of sending out an investigator to the areas of need. This had been tried by the Disasters Emergency Committee without much success and in any case the Standing Conference had no funds for this purpose even if it were considered one of its functions.

This would be discussed further by the Officers Committee.

The Secretary asked for the cooperation of members in sending her reports and other material which would help in building up information for circulation to other agencies. This was agreed.

Date of Next Meeting

To be left to the call of the Chairman.

11 October 1976
