WORLD UNIVERSITY SERVICE

Alan Phillips, General Secretary, World University Service (UK Committee) has recently been in Thailand. He went to Changmai and then to the North West to the Hill Tribe area where WUS is setting up a project to attract nurses (qualified and semi-qualified) and students to move away from Bangkok to serve people in the remote areas.

YMCA

A detailed report from the World Alliance of YMCAs has been received on Refugee Work in Thailand.

With financial help from the World Alliance and from Scandinavian countries the Bangkok YMCA has set up a Project.

The project covers initially food, shelter and medical aids in five areas where there are refugee camps. Some of this has now been taken over by UNHCR but YMCA is carrying out nutritional projects in conjunction with other agencies and looks after the needs of four camps for displaced persons from Cambodia and Laos.

The YMCA provides the Secretariat for the Committee for Coordination of Services to Displaced Persons in Thailand.

The YMCA is also planning recreational and educational services for some of the new camps.
