NOTE FOR EXECUTIVE COUNCILI

LABOUR FORCE SURVEY

ANALYSIS OF CHILDREN AGED 12 13

A

HKK 2102.

On 27th January 1976 the Council advised and the Governor ordered that the information obtained in the 1975 September Labour Force Survey about the 12-13 years age group should be summarised in a separate report which would not be published. The following paragraphs contain an analysis of children aged 12-13 derived from the survey.

2

It is estimated that 220, 000 persons, or 5% of the population, were within the age group 12-13. In the 1975 September Labour Force Survey, 4.8% of the survey population was found to be aged 12 and 13. The slight difference in the percentage may be attributable to the coverage of the 1975 September Labour Force Survey which was a survey of the land civilian non-institutional population only. The survey findings of the characteristics of these children are presented below. It has to be noted, however, that the 1975 September Labour Force Survey was not designed for the measurement of these charac- teristics, and hence the analysis should be read with caution.

3

The sex ratio (males: females) of these children was found to be 1.04 1 and the overall ratio of the 12 year age group to 13 year age group was 0.98: 1. (See table 1).
