(e) that in any registrable workplace illuminated notices bearing the words "FIRE EXIT" in English and Chinese shall be provided and maintained in good condition at any exit from the workplace; and
(ƒ) that in any tenement factory—
(i) an enclosed concrete stairway with self-closing doors of fire-resisting material on each landing shall be provided; (ii) any stairway required under this sub-paragraph shall be carried in concrete to the top floor of the building and continued either in concrete or in iron to the roof; and
(iii) a protected route to neighbouring buildings, or such other means of escape in case of fire as may be specified in the notice shall be provided.
(2) Every notice given under this regulation shall specify in detail the requirements of the Commissioner, including the time within which the requirements are to be complied with.
(3) The proprietor of the registrable workplace concerned shall, on receipt of any such notice, execute and do all such works and things as may be necessary in order to comply with every requirement so specified, including the submission of plans to the building authority.
Hygiene
34. Every registrable workplace shall be kept in a clean state, and free from effluvia arising from any drain, sanitary convenience or nuisance, and, without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing provisions-
(a) accumulations of dirt and refuse shall be removed daily by a suitable method from the floor and benches of workrooms and from the staircases and passages;
(b) the floor of every workroom shall be cleaned at least once in every week by washing or, if it is effective and suitable, by sweeping or other method; and
(c) all inside walls and partitions, and all ceilings or tops of rooms shall be limewashed at least once in every year or, if they have been oil-painted or varnished, they shall be washed with hot water and soap at least once in every period of fourteen months.
35. (1) In every registrable workplace, effective and suitable provision shall be made for securing and maintaining by the cir- culation of fresh air in each workroom or, in the case of a mine, in each shaft, the adequate ventilation of the room or shaft, and for rendering harmless, so far as practicable, all fumes, dust and other impurities that may be injurious to health generated in the course of any process or work carried on in the registrable workplace.
