Dear Norman,
I said yesterday on the telephone that I would let you have an indication of the subjects which, at this distance, we tentatively think we would like to raise with the Foreign Secretary on March 16. 'I am sure you will understand that there may need to be changes in the
light of important developments.
We would like to open up on the North/South Dialogue (Sir Reay Geddes speaking for us) since there was no time for this item last time. In this we include particularly the UK attitude to the UNCTAD Meeting and our policy towards the commodity producers.
I think that our President would then wish to ask the Foreign Secretary, given that he will shortly be going to the Soviet Union, whether developments in East-West relations recently may affect British prospects for trade and economic cooperation with the Russians.
We naturally hope that Mr Callaghan will have comments on the paper which Sir Derek Ezra sent to him last week on the Industrial Approach to European Union there may be important other developments
on the EEC to mention.

Once again we would like to mention one or two individual countries or areas; at the moment I would put developments in Southern Africa as most likely.
On present form it seems unnecessary for us to have a prepa- ratory meeting, but perhaps we could be in touch again in about ten days.
We cannot be quite certain about the composition of the CBI team but it looks like being the President, Sir Reay Geddes, the Director General, John Whitehorn and myself.
