Kr. Dunning recalled that a newly appointed Deputy Director of the CBI had visited the Trade Development Council five years ago. The TDC nad discussed a number of new ideas with him and he felt that a great deal could have been achieved had the Deputy Director been

able to stay longer in Hong Kong. Mr. Jordan suggested that the CBI should set up a small office in Hong Kong rather than relying on the part time services of the Director of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Commerce. On (d) Market surveys, Mr. Kinnear reported on the activities of the Trade Commission in respect of man-made fibre fabrics and the plastics industry. Mr. Dunning offered the assistance of the Trade Development Council in extending its market surveys on Hong Kong exports into the requirements of Hong Kong industries to enable them to meet overseas demand. He would then inform the Trade Commission and liaise with them on any requirements for capital goods aid raw materials. Members accepted this offer.

On (e) Inward missions. Mr. Kinnear explained that it was generally accepted that sending groups of Hong Kong industrialists to Britain to visit factories there was the most effective way of

Bourish establishing greater interest in Hong Kong products. The problem was to persuade British trade associations to put up their half of the cost. Nr. Dunning agreed that the Trade Development Council;

Salling in addition to organising purely buying missions, would persuade Hong Kong industrialists on selling missions to Europe to visit Britain with a view to calling on factories which might be able to supply them with their requirements. Members endorsed this proposal

and asked the Trade Development Council to liaise with the British

Trade Commissioner on the arrangements in Britain whenever such visits

could be arranged.
