On (a) information on major Government projects likely to go out to tender, Mr. Kinnear said that it would be helpful to have advance information about tenders for equipment so that he could alert British firms to the possibilities. He confirmed that he already received the annual Estimates from which the Public Works Non-Recurrent heads indicated the projects likely to be going out to tender during the year, and the Public Works Department's quarterly progress reports. Mr. Marshall agreed also to provide the British Trade Commission with the Public Works Department's 6 monthly list of contracts likely to be placed over the coming half year.

In response to Mr. Kinnear's request for more general information, Hembers agreed that he should contact the Technical Secretary, PWD, on specific projects or group of projects (e.g. the new towns). Mr. Marshall confirmed the Technical Secretary would then arrange briefings and visits as appropriate. He asked for as much advanced warning as possible from the Trade Commission so that he could make the necessary arrangements.

On tenders issued through the Government Supplies Department,

Mr. Kilvert confirmed that his Department sent copies of tender documents to the British Trade Commission, but he often had little advanced warning from departments that invitations to tender were imminent. He agreed with the Chairman that his department `would find it useful to have a return from departments, as soon, as the draft Estimates were ready, on the orders for equipment over $200,000 implied in the draft Estimates. Members agreed that he should pass a consolidated copy of these returns to the British Trade Commission.
