REQUISITIONING OF SHIPS ORDER 1969

1. Please see:

at Flag (A) Requisitioning of Ships Order 1969;

at Flag (B) Mr Bristow's letter of 30 July 1976 to Mr Wilberforce;

at Flag (C) Note of a meeting in the DOT on 23 August.

2. HKD have agreed with Defence Department that, before consulting Hong Kong about the possible updating of the 1969 Order, we should clarify a number of points with the DOT. I attach a self-explanatory draft letter to that effect, on which I would be grateful for your views. I would especially welcome: (a) your comments on sub-paragraphs 1(a) and 1(b) of the letter; and (b) any suggestions you might have as to what further points we might raise with the DOT or Hong Kong about the Order.
