Flense would you refer to Ir Shepherd's letter /Svy 3/3/10 of Cctober, seeking our views on an appropriate form of words to be used on British Military Survey Service maps to disclaim authority on boundaries?
2. The present disclaimer (paragraph 3) is unsatisfactory, end alternatives are suggested in paragraph 5. Both of the latter seem clumsy, and night lead to misunderstning about whether authority was disclained with regard for instance, to dependent territories (eg Belize). The use of the word "political" night also be misunderstood, hile the political status of a territory is surely not the only point the disclaimer should cover.
3.
If you agree that the two suggested new disclainers are in- adequate, I should be grateful for your suggestions of possible better ones. Perhaps the following night serve:
(a) "DIG maps are not to be regarded as authoritative on
boundaries or political status except in relation to the territory of Great Britain and Korthern Ireland."
This formula could be based on all maps, and would avoid the anger of the present situation where an inappropriate disclaimer (or none) might be applied by mistake to a given map.
