1. I attach a letter from the Crown Agents describing a visit to Brunei, Singapore and Hong Kong which Mr Cuckney plans to make rather soon. You may wish to inform posts.
2. Mr Cuckney's office have asked me whether the FCO would like to provide him with any briefing on the question of the possible supply of Rapier to the Sultan's forces in Brunei. I gather that the Royal Brunei Regiment, for whom the Crown Agents are acting, are anxious to acquire Rapier, but Mr Cuckney's office tell me that we have instructed BAC not to provide information about the weapons system. I have told Mr Cuckney's office that I know nothing of this decision, and I have entered into no commitment to provide
But I any background to it in the form of briefing for him. should be grateful if you could consider whether anything should in fact be said to him If so, I could reply to Mr Alexander's letter.
